ABOUT ME
I love my work as a manual therapist. I find it very rewarding to be able to help clients recover from injury, or to completely de-stress. My approach to each massage session is focused and intuitive – I take the time to look for particular patterns of tension, and then treat what I find, tailoring the session to the specific needs of the individual.
I have been teaching yoga for 17 years, in Australia, Jersey and now in Switzerland. I teach a flowing, dynamic style of yoga – each movement is synchronised with the breath, which makes it a very mindful, meditative practice. Some of my classes also include one or two longer restorative poses which involve the use of props such as bolsters and blankets to place the body in a position of deep rest.
Early in my teaching career, I began to look into how I could dive deeper into the study of anatomy so as to be able to teach yoga in the safest and most informed way possible. This was how I came to return to university (for the fourth time!) to study for a Masters degree in physiotherapy. Retraining as a physiotherapist prompted me to re-evaluate my whole approach to teaching yoga. I often borrow techniques and knowledge from the physiotherapy world to use in my classes; alongside the traditional yoga poses, I try to include movement in a variety of different planes and directions, which is ideal if you find that as you go through your day you spend a lot of time stuck in a chair or doing a limited range of repetitive movements. You do not need to be flexible to do yoga – in fact I emphasise building strength over flexibility, and we focus on reinforcing certain key muscles which are important for providing postural support to the body. My aim is to create classes that nurture and sustain participants both physically and mentally.
I look forward to helping you restore some balance to your life!
